Safelink Wireless

Safelink Wireless is the Lifeline Provider for TracFone Wireless Incorporated. TracFone It is a subsidiary of Mexican America Movil. TracFone holds multiple agreements to utilize networks of the United States largest wireless carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Safelink was the first company approved to provide cell phones to the low-income and otherwise needy in the United States under the federal-mandated Lifeline/Link-Up program. This gave them a leadership position in the industry that they still maintain today. As of May 2011 Safelink accounted for about 4 million of the 6 million mobile lifeline users.

Safelink Wireless Service Area

Although Safelink is only available in certain states, service is provided nationwide on the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile networks.

What SafeLink Provides Customers

Safelink Wireless is FREE to eligible customers; you will be able to get a free cell phone and 250 free minutes of airtime each month. Unlike most prepaid providers, Saflink Wireless does not require its customers to enter into a service contract. Safelink customers enjoy the same freedom that its parent TracFone Wireless has to offer: no bills, contracts or surprises.

Safelink Wireless users can usually choose from three different free plans:

Plan 1

  • Includes 68 Free Monthly Minutes
  • Unused Minutes Carry-Over
  • 3 Texts = 1 Minute
  • FREE International Long Distance
  • Voicemail, Caller ID and Call Waiting Included

Plan 2

  • Includes 125 Free Monthly Minutes
  • Unused Minutes Carry-Over
  • 3 Texts = 1 Minute
  • 1 Text = 1 Minute
  • Voicemail, Caller ID and Call Waiting Included

Plan 3

  • Includes 250 Free Monthly Minutes
  • 1 Text = 1 Min
  • Voicemail, Caller ID and Call Waiting Included

Safelink users that require more minutes can purchase optional top-up cards to increase their monthly minutes. These can conveniently be purchased online from Safelink Wireless, or from various retailers including Wal-Mart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Radio Shack, Rite Aid stores, Target, Kmart, Walgreens, and CVS.

Qualifying for Safelink

Safelink Wireless eligibility does depend on your state; you may qualify for Safelink Wireless if you participate in Social Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, Food Stamps/SNAP or other programs. You can also qualify if your income meets government guidelines in your state. Please see our Lifeline Information By State page for web's most detailed information.
